Hardware Requirements

Hosting

GBDS can be hosted as an on-premises solution using a determined physical structure, or in a virtualized environment, locally or remotely (cloud). GBDS requires a cluster of, at least, three nodes to work properly and provide correct redundance and fault tolerance, according to its replication factor.

The GBDS Nodes must share information within the cluster, then, the network infrastructure is an extremely important item for the correct operation of the application, specially in virtualized environments, and a dedicated switch must be provided for internal communication between the cluster nodes.

The hardware necessities for the application must be measured according to the project particularities, such as biometric modalities used, response time, transaction volume, etc. Being GBDS a CPU and Memory bound application, each virtual CPU must represent a non-share physical CPU to avoid malfunctions due to resource sharing.

Specific Hardware Necessities

GBDS is based on the Hadoop open-source framework and does not demand any specific hardware for working, such as GPUs, etc.

The use of Solid-State Drives (SSD's) is strongly recommended for storing the system and biometric information to accelerate the boot process and avoid any reading/writing malfunctions. CPUs that allow Hyper-Threading are also recommended to improve processment capabilities.
